Mecheda


Education

Mecheda Has a Long history of education. Besides having a number of Schools It is having a Famous college named College Of Engineering & Management, Kolaghat. It is Also Called as CEMK. College of Engineering and Management, Kolaghat (CEMK) was conceived and planned by Prof. Shankar Sen, an eminent educationist and former vice chancellor, Jadavpur University in the year 1998. It has a campus area of 26.925 acres (108,960 m2) and is located 57 km away from Kolkata within the Kolaghat Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) Township, Purba Midnapur, West Bengal. The College offers full time engineering programmes leading to 4 year B. Tech degree from West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). All the courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, India. However, the college started off in 1998 with affiliation by Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal. The first three batches of Engineering Graduates (1998–2002, 1999–2003 and 2000–2004) from this college got Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree from Vidyasagar University. But, in the year 2001 when WBUT was formed, all non-Government Engineering Colleges in West Bengal including CEMK came under its roof.
People from all over India are employed in the town due to the Thermal Power plant. Many schools exist, such as: 1. Kola Union High School ( K.U.H.S.) 2. K.T.P.P. High school.() 3. Gopalganj High School. 4. Ramchandrapur High School. 5. Santipur Sishu sikshayatan. 6. Hakola High School 7. Barnan High School.(H.S.) 8. Chatra Kunja Rani Bani Bhawan.

Weather

Summers are hot, but the winters are mild with the mercury hardly going below 11oC. During the winter, weather is relatively warmer than other place in Purba Medinipur.

Communication

NH41, State highway and South Eastern Railways,Kalaikunda is an airforce base about 100 km from Mecheda connected by SE railway.

Panskura

Geography

Panskura is located at 22.42N,87.7E. It has an average elevation of 7 metres (26 feet). Its a situated on the NH6 on the way from Kolkata to Kharagpur.

Economy

The livelihood of the common people is dependent on agriculture. Many varieties of flowers and green vegetable are grown and are supplied to Kolkata from here. Local vegetable wholesale market is the main trade of this town.               

Education



Panskura B. B. High School is the oldest and the reputed school of the area. Panskura Banamali College (both undergraduate and post graduate degree in arts, science and commerce) is the sole institution of higher education. Raghunathbari Ram Tarak High School which is also the second oldest, Dhuliapur Pallishree Bani Mandir and Patna Shamsundarpur High School, Pratappore High School are few of the good educational institutions in this area.

Transport

Connecterd by train and road (NH6) to Kolkata which is the nearest big city. Local trains of South Eastern Line are frequent. Kharagpur and HALDIA & DIGHA tran canaction hera.is also well connected to Panskura by NH6. Local buses and private taxis ply to more interior villages from there. and local bus service are also available from panskura to tamluk, panskura to Ghatal,Panskura to Haldia, Debra.
